Pete Szakacs |
| Pete graduated from Burrell in 1970, and
attended the University of Pennsylvania to pursue a pre-med education. While
at Penn, Pete double majored in Sociology and Biology. As an undergrad, Pete
also played football. He was captain of the freshman team, but for his
varsity seasons, mostly played “bench”. (Someone has to hold the dummies in
practice!)
After graduation, Pete worked at Penn while taking
graduate courses in Sociology and Biology. Rather than pursue a career in
Medicine, Pete decided to follow the advice of the chiropractor who saved
his parents from surgeries, and who helped him recover from a back injury in
his sophomore year at Burrell. (Dr. John Rucki repeatedly said to Pete-
“Don’t go to medical school. Go to chiropractic school!”)
As a result, Pete enrolled at Columbia Institute of
Chiropractic (which since changed it’s name to New York Chiropractic
College). After graduation in 1978, Pete opened his own practice on Long
Island, New York. Three years later, he moved to Bucks County, and
established a very successful, well-known chiropractic facility.
Throughout his career, Pete specialized in Chiropractic,
Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Acupuncture. He also became well known in the
chiropractic community for his “practice management” expertise. In addition
to serving in various “Practice Management” roles with New York Chiropractic
College, he also served on the Board of Trustees at NYCC.
Pete sold his chiropractic facility in Bucks County, and
moved to the Tampa area in March of 2004. He lives with his wife Michele
(married since 1986) and 2 dogs. Pete now is “on an extended sabbatical”.
His “second career” is providing management consulting to health care
professionals. |

Bernie Storer |
| Bernie was Burrell's head coach for the
1980, 1981, and 1982 season. Since leaving Burrell,Bernie coached at Penn
Hills, Woodland Hills, Bethel Park, and Duquesne University. He is currently
starting clinics for athletes that will address development, strength
training, help with college placement, and reinforce the development of the
athlete's attitude for self-discipline and hard work.
"Burrell is one of the best football towns in the country
and also one of the most humble. I remember an outstanding
teaching and administrative and support staff, great student body support
(especially the Blue Crew) , an impressive band (thank you flag girls
and tuba section), the world's best cheerleaders, the most positive and
supportive parents a coach could ever work with, a super group of assistant
coaches, AND THE GREATEST FOOTBALL PLAYERS A COACH COULD ASK FOR!"
Memories-Many, highlighted by the first Burrell -
Valley game in 1980 where a young group of kids were picked to loose by 35
points to an outstanding Valley team and the outcome was decided in the last
second on the the last play... 7-6 BURRELL and a great high school rivalry
began! But my best memory is EACH AND EVERY YOUNG MAN WHO PLAYED FOR ME how
they finished strong each game and the great attitude they had and
still remains in today's Burrell football players. They made coaching a
pleasure for me and continue to make it a pleasure for this year's football
staff. I always think of my days at Burrell and my heart will always remain
Columbia Blue! |
